4Great bathroom fan
By William Kennerly
This is a high quality fan with a bright compact fluorescent light (bulb included, though it does use a standard lightbulb socket).

When I needed to replace my fan, I first went to a big-box hardware store. Their display was very helpful but they only had two brands of fan in stock. I bought a medium-priced unit at about $70 that would have higher than needed flow rate to handle my small bathroom. However I never got to install it. The installation hardware wasn't even included! No screws, no nothing. Even worse, unlike any other fan I've seen, it didn't have "bars" that extend to your needed size and then screw into your ceiling joists. Instead you had to get your own pieces of scrap lumber to somehow attach to the joists and fill in the empty space, then screw the fan directly into the scrap lumber. Moreoever the instructions were vague and hard to understand due to, apparently, language translation issues. When a product like this has been cheapened to the point where installation is needlessly difficult, I lose confidence that the unit itself is good hardware.

So I turned to Amazon and found a better selection and read that the Panasonic fans are considered very good. (They make more than just TVs!) But you definitely pay more for the same specifications of fan. Normally I would never buy this sort of item on Amazon because I would want to physically see it before buying, and returns are easier at big box store. However this unit worked out great! The instructions were much easier to understand and all the installation hardware was included. However the installation bars, while present and do the job, seem like a bad design. You sort of get 1 and 1/2 bars that extend out and screw into the joists from the sides, while in the units I've used before, you get two full bars that screw into the joists from above. That configuration is much easier to install. It was awkward to get this unit, which is 10 inches square, installed between my joists which are 16 inches apart -- hard to fit the screwdriver and drill into the right place. This is why I rated 4 stars instead of 5.

However now that the fan is in, it works great! It is very, very quiet. You can certainly hear it while you're in the bathroom, but not if the shower is on. It cannot be heard in any adjacent room. I purposely bought a higher flow rate than I needed (80 CFM compared to 60 CFM) and I was shocked that even after a 15 minute hot shower not one bit of condensation on the mirror formed--this thing sucks, literally! My old fan was never that good. And, I was surprised by the light's brightness -- I don't even need to use the vanity lights most of the time. One last pleasant surprise: the plastic housing that extends below the ceiling is quite a bit larger than the 10 inch square hole, so it can cover any little mistakes you might make while cutting the new hole in :)

5Shhh...you can barely hear it!
By V. Volmut
I purchased this fan as the one in my windowless bathroom was making more and more noise, I knew this indicated a motor that was at the end of its useful life. So, I went down to this big box store and picked one out of the higher end line of four they offered. It had a "soames" (a sound rating) rating of two. Upon thinking about this, I remembered that I have a Prime membership here @ Amazon, and decided to check out their lineup of fans. I settled on this Panasonic primarily based on its super quiet air draw and bright fluorescent light. I found the brackets included not very helpful between my existing ceiling/attic joists. So, with the use of one bracket, and other attachment, I was able to place it in the ceiling. People, this is one quiet fan, it even comes with a nightlight! I love the absence of noise, and how quickly the steam/moisture from showering leaves this room. While it was roughly twice what that big box store sold that no name brand for, it has the Panasonic name on it and I expect years of quiet operation with its good warranty.

5Best fan for the money
By research guy
I'm a bathroom remodeler, and I get to deal with bath fans day in and day out, like another reviewer, once upon a time I used to get my fans from the big box stores, and they are SUCH a pain to deal with, overall design of those fans are often flawed, making certain aspects of installation much more difficult than need be, and to make it worse, many of those big box store fans are actually louder than the sones rating they bear, I've installed so very many of them to know the difference.

then one day, an electrician I worked with recommended me this particular line of fans, I bought one online, and installation was a pure breeze, these fans are so well engineered that you would have to marvel at it after having installed so many poorly designed units. to start off, most of the fans in this line share the same box dimension, and they are designed into a square box (same width and length) rather than an rectangle, all the support arms are included, and the support arm mounting bays can be easily removed if necessary making the housing true to its dimensions. the best part however, is how the housing actually comes apart for strict remodel type installation where the ceiling remains in place and you have no access to the attic, the air outlet and the wiring compartment can be detached from the housing, and be installed into the ceiling opening first, once that is in place, the actual housing can be pushed straight up from the bottom without needing to be tilted, it can be pushed all the way into the opening and eventually attaches onto the outlet piece. I can't tell you how efficient this design is, it makes the installation of this fan for remodeling purposes so easy that it takes less than 30 minutes to put it in from scratch.

the actual loudness of this fan is another wonder, compared to all the fan's I've installed to date, this line of panasonic fans are THE quietest. the on board light is set at daylight color, and is bright enough to completely light up a 50SF room with ease.

so there goes my share of experience, get this line of fans, and you won't regret it.
